Non, car je n’ai pas réussi à me justifier au regard des notes laissées par Shinko.

C’est beaucoup plus tard que j’ai cacheté l’enveloppe. De retour au Japon, je résolus de me remarier et, par égard pour ma nouvelle femme, je crus devoir oublier le passé… Je m’efforçai d’écarter de mon nouveau ménage tout ce qui pouvait rappeler Shinko. Que faire de ces cahiers ? Les brûler ? N’était-ce pas blasphémer l’amour maternel ?... Je cachetai le paquet et, pour le soustraire aux regards de ma femme, je le cachai dans la bibliothèque de mon laboratoire. Avec le temps, j’oubliai jusqu’à son existence.
