Je trouvai Miyamura accoudé au bastingage, en train de fumer. De ce côté on ne voyait pas la terre et, à l’exception d’une petite jetée, au premier plan, la mer bleue et étincelante s’étendait à perte de vue.

I found Miyamura leaning against the rail, smoking. From this side one could not see the land and, with the exception of a small jetty, in the foreground, the blue and brilliant sea extended as far as the eye could see.
