Mais quel beau temps ! quel merveilleux matin que celui de notre arrivée à Singapore ! Par le hublot dont avait été tiré le rideau, l’éblouissante lumière du matin coulait à flots dans notre étroite cabine.
« Je suis réveillée », criai-je naïvement. Miyamura, qui respirait l’air frais près du hublot, regarda au-dehors. « L’enfant a raison », fit-il avec un sourire. « Nous sommes déjà en Europe ici. » Moi aussi, négligeant de faire ma toilette, je me penchai au-dehors. Les couleurs de la mer et du ciel, comme lavées de frais, nettes et profondes, les arbres au loin et, sous leur ombre, les édifices de couleurs vives que caressait la chaude lumière : C’était bien là un panorama qui évoquait déjà l’Europe !

But what a beautiful weather! what a wonderful morning that we arrived in Singapore! Through the pothole of which the curtain had been drawn, the dazzling morning light flowed into our narrow cabin in floods.
"I'm awake," I cried naively. Miyamura, who was breathing the cool air near the pithole, looked out. "The child is right," he said with a smile. “We are already in Europe here. I too, neglecting to groom myself, leaned out. The colors of the sea and the sky, as if washed fresh, clean and deep, the trees in the distance and, under their shadows, the buildings of bright colors which the warm light caressed: It was indeed there a panorama that already evoked the Europe!
