SELF-REFORM

Man is worried because his neighbours are not what he wants them to be. His disturbed state increases as he endeavours to bring them round to his way.

The wise man is self-analytic. He probes into his own beings and spot out the defects. Along with the elimination of the evils within he emerges a reformed man, a blessing to his neighbours.

O long for the day when egoism will be erased, senses five in number will be quelled and the self be left to shine in its splendour.

RÉFLEXIONS OU SENTENCES ET MAXIMES MORALES

77

L'amour prête son nom à un nombre infini de commerces qu'on lui attribue, et où il n'a non plus de part que le Doge à ce qui se fait à Venise.

78

L'amour de la justice n'est en la plupart des hommes que la crainte de souffrir l'injustice.

77.—Love lends its name to an infinite number of engagements (Commerces) which are attributed to it, but with which it has no more concern than the Doge has with all that is done in Venice.

78.—The love of justice is simply in the majority of men the fear of suffering injustice.
