French film and music stars cut off their hair in solidarity with Iranian protesters
French screen and music stars supported protesters in Iran by chopping off their hair in a video posted on Oct. 5.
In the video, Juliette Binoche hacks a large handful of hair off the top of her head with a pair of scissors. “For freedom,” the Oscar-winning actress says.
The Instagram video has the hashtag HairForFreedom. It comes as Iran is engulfed by anti-government protests. The protests were sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. She died after she was arrested for allegedly breaking the country’s strict dress code.
Some of the protesters in Iran have publicly cut off locks of their hair. The gesture has spread around the world.
Images and videos of women cutting off their hair have gone viral. Turkish singer Melek Mosso cut off her hair onstage, and a Swedish lawmaker cut hers off in the European Parliament. (AP)
