New York company raises $146K for action figure of Volodymyr Zelenskyy
A Kickstarter campaign raised more than $146,000 (Y19.4 million) to help Ukraine by making an action figure of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The Kickstarter campaign was launched by FCTRY, a New York product design company, on July 28. It hit its $30,000 (Y4 million) funding goal in just three hours. When it closed on Aug. 13, it had raised a total of $146,634 from 3,819 backers.
The company said it will give $1 (Y130) to Ukraine for every Zelenskyy figure it sells.
The clay prototype of the action figure is 6 inches (15 cm) tall and was molded by Seattle artist Mike Leavitt. Plastic figures are expected to ship beginning in March.
“The way we framed him in the campaign is ‘the unlikely hero,’” said Jason Feinberg, FCTRY’s chief executive and creative director. “He’s the perfect leader for this moment.” (Reuters)
