ATTACHMENT

Attachment to things worldly is a virtue within certain bounds. It becomes a vice when one becomes incapable of detachment.

The mother needs be attached to her child. But if the child grows into an incorrigible rake she should be able to detach herself from him. That man lives well in the world, who is capable of both attachment and detachment.

Man grows in spiritual excellence when he gives up all attachments to sense-objects which are evanescent.

RÉFLEXIONS OU SENTENCES ET MAXIMES MORALES

63

L'aversion du mensonge est souvent une imperceptible ambition de rendre nos témoignages considérables, et d'attirer à nos paroles un respect de religion.

64

La vérité ne fait pas tant de bien dans le monde que ses apparences y font de mal.

63.—The aversion to lying is often a hidden ambition to render our words credible and weighty, and to attach a religious aspect to our conversation.

64.—Truth does not do as much good in the world, as its counterfeits do evil.

Visitors to Florence baptistry will be able to see its famous ceiling mosaics up close
フィレンツェのサン・ジョヴァンニ洗礼堂、修復中の天井画を前例のない方法で公開へ

The Baptistry of San Giovanni is one of the most iconic monuments in Florence, Italy. Visitors are now getting a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see its ceiling mosaics. And it’s thanks to some out-of-the-box thinking.

The mosaics are being cleaned, a process that will take six years. But the area won’t be closed to the public.

Officials built a 32-meter-high scaffolding platform for the art restorers.

The platform will also allow small numbers of visitors to see the ceiling mosaics at eye level. Visits are set to start on Feb. 24 and must be reserved in advance.

The platform will have special routes that will “bring visitors into direct contact with the mosaics,” said Samuele Caciagli, the architect in charge of the restoration site.

The six-year restoration project is the first in over a century at the baptistry. (AP)
