All beings seek to know more and more. Man must profitably increase his knowledge.
The knowledge of the non-self or the phenomenon is useful. But the knowledge of the Self or Atman is elevating. Problems in life decrease in proportion to the enlightenment in Atman. Being fixed in Atman is the means to increase enlightenment. Fixation in Atman and enlightenment are one and the same.
From ignorance lead me to enlightenment.

Tous les êtres cherchent à en savoir de plus en plus. L'homme doit accroître ses connaissances avec profit.
La connaissance du non-soi ou du phénomène est utile. Mais la connaissance du Soi ou Atman s'élève. Les problèmes dans la vie diminuent proportionnellement à l'illumination en Atman. Être fixé dans l'Atman est le moyen d'augmenter l'illumination. La fixation dans l'Atman et l'illumination sont une seule et même chose.
De l'ignorance conduisez-moi à l'illumination.

Une des choses qui fait que l'on trouve si peu de gens qui paraissent raisonnables et agréables dans la conversation, c'est qu'il n'y a presque personne qui ne pense plutôt à ce qu'il veut dire qu'à répondre précisément à ce qu'on lui dit. Les plus habiles et les plus complaisants se contentent de montrer seulement une mine attentive, au même temps que l'on voit dans leurs yeux et dans leur esprit un égarement pour ce qu'on leur dit, et une précipitation pour retourner à ce qu'ils veulent dire; au lieu de considérer que c'est un mauvais moyen de plaire aux autres ou de les persuader, que de chercher si fort à se plaire à soi-même, et que bien écouter et bien répondre est une des plus grandes perfections qu'on puisse avoir dans la conversation.

139.—One of the reasons that we find so few persons rational and agreeable in conversation is there is hardly a person who does not think more of what he wants to say than of his answer to what is said. The most clever and polite are content with only seeming attentive while we perceive in their mind and eyes that at the very time they are wandering from what is said and desire to return to what they want to say. Instead of considering that the worst way to persuade or please others is to try thus strongly to please ourselves, and that to listen well and to answer well are some of the greatest charms we can have in conversation.
